Coming from a girl who gets obtusely stressed out over things like her alarm that’s about to go off, or whether or not she’ll make this yellow light, I know stress can absolutely consume someone’s life. Dealing with stress while having to deal with all of the simple struggles in life like work and school is one of the hardest things to do.
1. Pump up your endorphins! Physical activity may help bump up the production of your brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters, called endorphins. You should be getting a good amount of exercise daily by doing things like going for a walk, taking up yoga, or going to the gym.
2. meditate and breathing – There are plenty of resources like the calm app or breathwork that can guide you through meditation and breathing exercises.
3. It’s said that diet can support a healthy immune system and the repair of damaged cells. It provides the extra energy needed to cope with stressful events. Eating a good balance of protein, vegetables, and fiber, and even making a daily meal plan can help so much with stress, especially ifn eating enough throughout the day is one of the things stressing you out.
Research says that a stressful event creates a release of hormones, called cortisol. This is when your blood sugar increases, adrenaline causes a more rapid heart rate and oxygen fills your muscles creating tension. This isn’t an ideal feeling. To make this go away, usually the situation causing stress is identified, removed, and life goes back to normal. Its proven that things like diet, exercise, meditation, limiting screen time, and sunlight can help with stress and anxiety.
4. Limiting screen time and spending more time with people. If you are someone who gets their happiness from their friends and family, and you’ve been feeling stressed and down, it’s extremely important that you keep those people close and remember that they recharge your batteries. Stay in the moment and in the real world and see how much it helps you forget about all of those things stressing you out and keeping you down.
5. If you aren’t the biggest people person, there are things you can do alone that also help greatly with stress relief. Research says the best thing you can do is take care of yourself. Find time to think and reflect alone. It helps more than you can imagine. Do things like listen to music, read a book, sit by yourself for a while.
6. Sunlight and outside time- The best-known benefit of sunlight is its ability to boost the body’s vitamin D. Vitamin D is a huge part of stress relief and can help your body release endorphins and relax. Sit outside and eat some oranges. Enjoy that vitamin C and D!
