From starting as a simple short form cartoon for the Tracey Ullman show, to becoming one of the most iconic animated TV shows ever created, the Simpsons have been around for quite a long time and provided many with joy. But sadly, that comes to an end soon (sort of).
The Simpsons was aired in December of 1989 but it was created in 1987, making it the longest running adult animation series in the world. It was created by popular cartoonist, Matt Greoning, who even if you haven’t seen it before, you‘d probably recognize his infamous signature on sight. The first time it was aired was for a Christmas special, and it wouldn’t be until a year later in 1990 that it would start airing as a weekly show the way it is now.
The Simpsons have definitely evolved from their original cartoon short forms, not only in physical appearance, but also in character. And that’s exactly why so many people absolutely adore the Simpsons, which is why it came as a shock to many that FOX had decided to end The Simpsons after 34 long years of service… except they didn’t.
In 2023 the 35th and 36th seasons of the show were announced (yes there are that many), and it‘s been said that there is no end in sight. However, no plans for season 37 have been announced. A lot of people felt that they had been duped by FOX since the end of season 35 framed itself as the last episode of the series, but in reality it clearly wasn’t.
While the show may not be ending now, the mobile game created by EA called Tapped Out where you can build your own Springfield is being discontinued after 12 years of being available to play! This is what many people are outraged by considering that most had been playing the game since it came out and had been building their towns since then. Essentially some people will be having almost 12 years of progress ripped out from under them, and EA as of now have not released a statement on why the game is being removed from all app stores.
The removal of the game from app stores was on October 31st of this year, marking a sad day for many. So while the show stays, the game goes, but some people would prefer for the show to go with it. There have been many critics of the show over the years, and most have said that the show began losing its charm in season 7 specifically, and I must agree that 36 seasons seems a bit ridiculous, but all we can do is let people enjoy the show while they can.
