So, you think you’re an aspiring artist. But that’s not quite right, is it? You can draw. You can write. You can paint. You can sculpt. You can make music. You can act. I don’t care what it is, so long as it’s yours. Do you feel you’re not good enough? Do you think it’s impossible to make your art a career? Do you just want to give up? If so, you’re wrong.
You probably go online often, being it the 21st century and all. And when you do, you likely see many people posting their work with your form of art, whatever it may be. You notice they’re quite skilled at it. Better than you could ever be, you think. You start to question yourself; am I really cut out for this?
The artists on the internet have been honing their skills for many years, some even longer than you’ve been alive. Beethoven didn’t get famous after a day of playing the piano, you know. So don’t lose hope. Keep practicing your art, no matter what it is, and reach peaks you can’t even imagine right now. You’re still young, so you should dream big, right? Trust me, you have plenty of time——just don’t waste it.
Take “aspiring” out of the picture. You’re an artist. You can tell incredible stories. You can make incredible things.Your mind is a vast and enigmatic universe where anything can happen. So, use it, and bring the beautiful things happening inside your brain to life. Don’t let them rot in the dark. Don’t let them become prisoners in the depths of your imagination where they will never see the light of day. Pick up a pen, or an instrument, or a Google docs page. Let them live.
Draw a picture, for they always paint over a thousand words. Write a story, for none can live without them. Play a song you’ve written, for music can bring people back to metaphorical life. Sculpt a statue, so you can bring your beautiful thoughts from the first dimension to the third. Act a scene, for even the happiest person alive sometimes needs to be someone they’re not. Make art, because it’s so incredibly yours, and can anything really be better than that?
It may seem hopeless right now, but you can blame that part of your psyche on simply being human. You have so much room to grow, so much room to evolve. Everyone does. So let that potential boil out of you like magma from an active volcano. Let it consume your mind like a raging tsunami. Stand in front of the swirling storm of thoughts and ideas in your head, embracing the impact with open arms. Grow the sapling of your immaturity into a tall, wonderful tree. You are an artist. There’s no “aspiring” to it.
