Come now, come now!
Workers and children
Let me tell a story passed
From the future, from the past, to today
Long ago—
In this great city, no less—
Despair had come in her grand chariot
Cloaked in pyrite and crimson
She stole the throne and reigned on high
A king destroyed, she points her finger at the innocent
She had a mission, she had her wits
And so again, she’d save her friend
But every night while the people slept
Her fool’s gold gown drug across the grass
Despair stood at a statue of Love, a girl in a flower crown
Took off her pyrite crown, and watered the flowers with tears
She planted her feet, stole a million souls,
Brought back the Love she’d known long before
But as her dearest friend floated down from the heavens,
Love and Despair combined as one burning Hope.
Hope was not a fragile thing;
She was not a raindrop nor a flower nor a bluebird
She was a fire, she was forever burning
Proud, just as the axe she carried
She could never be drowned out
And oh, the world did try its best!
Hope stayed firm on her feet
For she was the knight that transcended time
And transcend time she did;
For the moment she awoke
She was not in her time, but another
One where Despair was still queen and Love was deceased
Hope found two heroes to fight alongside
The Star, with pure magic and a hero’s spirit
And the Father, with his bow and protective determination
The Father would save the Star when the Star saved the world
And when those three heroes failed their quest
Hope would transcend time and restart again
Again, again
She would transcend time and restart again, again
Hope retained all her pain
Yet still, she retained her virtue!
She grit her teeth, stood upright
And leaped once more into the fray
The Star could melt, the Father could fail
But Hope could never die
No, she could never die
For she was the knight that transcended time
And in the final moment of this burning, desperate tale
Hope meets Despair once again
The Star and Father at her side
All the friends they’d made behind them
Despair raised her trident high
Hope let her axe fall
While the Father protected her from harm
And the Star protected her spirit
Hope approached Despair
Wrapped her in a warm embrace
Whispered soothing words into her ear
And waited as she wept
And that is how Despair, the Pyrite Queen
Met her glorious end
In the caring arms of Hope
She became Love once again
No, Hope wasn’t the hero of this tale
She was a guide, a compass for the Star and Father
Hope alone cannot end the night
And yet, only she can end it right
Run along now, children and workers
But don’t yet forget me——
For this old Star has plenty more tales to tell
So come along, come along
I hope you remember my story one day
When you have your back against the wall
Or your face deep, deep in the dirt
I hope you remember
While Hope protected my Father and I,
She can protect you, as well
For she is the knight that transcends time
And she’s singing to us even now.
Can’t you hear her?
Not with your ears
