How Tik Tok Impacts Music
Tik Tok has had a long past, but one thing to be sure of is that music has a tendency of going viral a lot more than before Tik Tok’s time. Very skilled artists are surfacing with success after viral Tik Tok audios/videos, and the most popular example of this would be Olivia Rodrigo.
When an audio clip of Olivia Rodrigo’s song “Driver’s License” was used by Tok Tok influencers such as Charli D’Amelio, the song blew up. Since then, Rodrigo has attained more than 10 million followers, and it’s still a trending song. The song “Driver’s License” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and continues to lead 2021 as the year’s most globally streamed song. Quite a feat to accomplish for going viral on Tik Tok.
As of right now in 2022, there are about 755 million global users on TIk Tok. These people are consuming short videos and audios, expressing their creativity, and creating their own short videos. This has attracted new artists to the site. Not only has it attracted new artists, but it has helped current artists explode in popularity, such as Tai Verdes, who you may have heard ads for on Spotify.
These artists and up-and-coming artists go on to create music that Tik Tok users devour. They are thrust into viral fame and given futures unimaginable. If your “For You Page” algorithm favors music, you may see these new artists daily. Can you help but marvel at the prospect of watching someone create a song in their bedroom and then watching them release an album? How about seeing a musical on Tik Tok and suddenly watching it on Broadway?
Tik Tok and music have a relationship that is unassailable. There is a platform for artists never before imagined, and the ease of which people can go viral is uncanny. Though, if the person going viral isn’t equipped to handle such a confidence boost into the limelight, it can be a harmful fame. However, for those who have worked hard and are prepared, Tik Tok can be a blessing in disguise. You may be able to imagine, but due to the large number of consumers on the site, going viral now means a lot more than a few million views. Like a viral audio launching Olivia Rodrigo onto the Billboard Charts, or Tai Verdes into touring the U.S..
A good takeaway from the platform is that even though Tik Tok has controversies, through the ups and downs, it will never fail to open a door of possibilities for anyone who seeks them out.
