Bat Fest
Bat fest, when you first hear these words you automatically think of a festival celebrating flying bats. But this year bat meant sports involving bats, like softball and baseball. “It is an event put on by the Putnam City North Baseball and Softball programs. Both baseball and softball players will be dressed up in their Halloween costumes. There were trick-or-treating and carnival games as well as raffle tickets and prizes. After the trick or treating and the games, Baseball and Softball will play a game against each other in their costumes,” Coach Nate Dion said.
One of the goals this year at Putnam City North is to include the community at school events.“I like the fact that it’s a community event, it brought more people in from the community and it brings more people to the games,” senior Landon Fonzi said. Although softball and baseball are similar sports they don’t have a chance to interact. “I liked how we were on different sides but we were able to get along together but still be competitive at the same time,” sophomore Monica Coats said.
In the spirit of Halloween, everyone wore costumes. ”Daymien Martinez, Daymien wanted to have me and him be a mariachi band, and so we got the whole senior class to become a mariachi band so we can all have a good time together,” senior Kolby Booth said.
Events like this are great practices for our players to connect and work with each other. ”I really enjoyed myself, it was fun to have a kind of banter with the softball girls and have a great time with my teammates,” senior Kolby Booth said. Although these two sports have two different names they are able to work together. “I enjoyed how softball and baseball came together like a community,” sophomore Aubrey Miller
